Honest, independent, sometimes brutal opinions and accounts of a real race day experience, on a particular day. We rate different parts of the race day experience by awarding up to five gold stars. The number of stars given reflects just how good, or otherwise, we think each area is. We’re currently updating some of our older reviews to bring them in line with this newer scoring format, so please bear with us while we work through them. At the end of each review, we also give the racecourse an overall score based on our experience on the day.
Race day experiences can vary depending on the size of the meeting, day of the week, time of year, and even the weather. That’s why we revisit racecourses and write completely new racecourse reviews, so the review you read always reflects what a typical visit feels like at that time.
We might return to a racecourse because we loved it, because it didn’t score well, and we want to see if it’s improved, or because it’s a dual-code racecourse and we want to experience both jumps racing and flat racing to give a more rounded review.
We make no apologies for putting a lot of focus on food and drink. Most racegoers will want something to eat or drink during their day at the races, so any racecourse review worth its salt should sample some of it and give an honest opinion. We’re not trying to be Jamie Oliver or Nigella, we’re just telling it how we find it.
We have nothing to gain from any review we write. Our visits are self-funded, and our reviews are always our own opinions. All prices quoted in our racecourse reviews were correct at the time of the visit.
Stable visits now appear as short videos on our Instagram page.
